Artist Talk with curator and writer Övül Ö. Durmuşoğlu: "Aesthetics of togetherness"

Aesthetics of togetherness
Thu 15. June 17h,Hardenbergstraße 33, R 115
When paradigms shift and collapse in Europe and around the world, many urgent self-reflexive questions arise for contemporary art praxis and theory. Our present is mostly an echo-chamber in fragments and yet the future needs to be invented by people. The hyper-masculine hegemony names decades of struggles by workers, women,
LGBTI, environmentalists, migrants as weaknesses. Therefore, it is our very responsibility – as artists, writers, curators, cultural and intellectual workers- to develop new languages of resilience and stand for all the gains. Can we define an aesthetics of togetherness in the fractured present? What is the affect and effect of art in the new narratives?

documentary films: "Shoah", Sa/Su 14./15. January 14-19h

Next film up:
“Shoah” by  Claude Lanzmann (F 1985, 544 min)
shoah1 shoah2
Because it’s a very long film, so we’ll split the screening over saturday and sunday 14h-19h both days.
It’s a film that is not easy to watch, but for those who are interested in finding out more about the holocaust this film approaches it in a very strong and unique way.

documentary films: Searching for Sugar Man

the last film before christmas, thursday dec 15th, 18h:
“Searching for Sugar Man” (Malik Bendjelloul, S/UK 2012, 86min)
searching-for-sugar-man-whysoblu-6-8x6
A film about a search of what has become of Sixto Rodriguez, an American musician that was very popular and influential in South Africa in the mid 1970s, but vanished from the music world in the US.
after christmas, we’ll continue with Shoah, which personally I find the most important film about the holocaust I’ve ever seen. Since that is a very long film the screening will two days on the weekend 14./15. January, I propose 14-19h but we can discuss this on the next screening.

James Bridle: Cloud Index, 22.11 4pm 115

Cloud Index is a weather prediction model that consumes vast amounts of historic weather data from satellites and correlates it with polling data on major political events, most notably the recent EU referendum. Bridle’s new commission for the Serpentine explores the connections between climate, behaviour and networks and uses the principles of weather divination and advanced neural networks to question our technological certainties and our democratic convictions. With Cloud Index, Bridle takes on the computing ‘cloud’ as the most pervasive and least understood metaphor of our times.
James Bridle is a British artist and writer based in Athens, Greece. His artworks have been commissioned by galleries and institutions and exhibited worldwide and on the internet. His writing on literature, culture and networks has appeared in magazines and newspapers including Wired, Domus, Cabinet, the Atlantic, the New Statesman, the Guardian, the Observer and many others, in print and online. He lectures regularly at conferences, universities, and other events. His formulation of the New Aesthetic research project has spurred debate and creative work across multiple disciplines. His work can be found at http://booktwo.org.
